OCHN Provides Mental Health Tips and Resources in Response to Violence at Temple Israel
(OCHN, March 12, 2026)
West Bloomfield, MI – Oakland Community Health Network (OCHN) has shared mental health tips and resources in the wake of the attack on Temple Israel in West Bloomfield today.
Tips for Parents:
-Acknowledge the event. If your child brings up a traumatic incident, offer simple, age-appropriate facts and support.
-Check in with older kids. They may have seen news or social media – ask what they know and how they feel.
-Validate their emotions. Their worries are real, especially when tragedies happen in public space.
-Reinforce safety. Routines help restore stability. Highlight positive response, like quick action from helpers and communities coming together.
Tips for Adults:
-Everyone reacts differently – fear, anger, sadness, shock – and all feelings are valid.
-Encourage open conversations about thoughts and emotions, and reach out to friends, family, or professionals if needed.
-Returning to routines can help restore balance and sense of control.
-Be mindful of media exposure, especially for children. Staying informed is okay, but constant viewing of upsetting images can make things harder.
Individuals experiencing a mental health crisis should call OCHN’s Crisis Line 888-238-0677 or OCHN’s non-emergency behavioral health access department at 248-464-6363 Monday through Friday from 8am to 8p.
