Work-life balance key to maintaining mental health: Pathak Lucknow: Work-life balance is crucial to maintaining mental health and avoiding psychological problems, especially amid increasing pressure in the race to lead a modern life.The advice was given by deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak while speaking at the mental health conference in the city on Sunday.”Maintaining work-life balance is most important because an imbalance between both aspects causes mental issues,” he said.Experts cited the case of an 18-year-old whose gaming addiction disrupted his education. He left Delhi University and later dropped out of a course in Kota after reportedly spending nearly 18 hours a day playing games.Specialists said digital addiction often begins at home when parents hand over mobile phones to children for routine tasks. They advised encouraging creative activities and maintaining “digital hygiene”, noting that many youths spend over 9 hours daily on mobile phones.The two-day conference, Psycon 2026, organised by chairman of Nirvan Hospital Dr HK Agrawal, also featured discussions on neuroplasticity in the digital age, emerging neurotechnologies such as RTMS, and the impact of technology on parenting, relationships, and emotional health.Several senior experts were honoured during the event. Lifetime Achievement Awards were presented to T B Singh and Krishna Dutt. Other awardees included P K Dalal, H Naidu, Prabhat Sithole, and R K Thakral for their contributions to different fields of mental health.
