Behavioral Health | NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County
NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings is the primary teaching affiliate of the SUNY Downstate residencies and fellowships. The behavioral health services, located in the modern “R” building, offers a wide variety of clinical programs including a Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program, adult, adolescent, and young adult inpatient units, partial hospitalization program, first break psychosis program, substance use disorders specialty treatment programs, and a co-located primary care clinic.
Our general psychiatry residents and child fellows rotate through these services as well as providing behavioral health services in consultation to the hospital’s inpatient medical and primary care services.
Our clinical teams are comprised of psychiatrists, psychologists, internists, nurse practitioners, nurses, social workers, addiction counselors, licensed creative arts therapists, and other clinical staff who provide care in a compassionate, safe and secure environment. Our patients come from culturally rich and diverse backgrounds, many from low resourced communities, and present with varied psychopathology, including mood, anxiety, trauma-related, psychotic, behavioral, and developmental disorders.
The faculty works closely with our trainees providing in-person supervision and participating in the academic didactic lecture series offered by the training program.
Learning to care for patients in this community with the resources and services offered by Kings County Hospital Behavioral Health Services prepares our trainees to work in any practice setting after their graduation.
