A Bozeman man is facing attempted deliberate homicide charges after stabbing his father early Tuesday morning.

Deputies were called to a Westlake Park Boulevard home around 1:25 a.m. after a woman reported her son was attacking her husband. The victim, the suspect’s father, was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Authorities found a large amount of blood in the home and recovered two knives believed to be involved. According to court documents, the suspect’s mother said she woke to yelling and managed to get her son to hand over a knife.

The suspect may have been experiencing a mental health episode at the time. He had recently stopped taking prescribed medication and told investigators he lost control during the attack.

He was booked into the Gallatin County Detention Center and is expected to appear in court in the coming days.

The victim’s condition has not been made public.

The investigation is ongoing.
