ATLANTIC CITY, NJ — The work done by a doctor at two South Jersey cancer centers was honored on March 11 along with a fundraiser that raised more than $475,000.
Around 400 people attended the Jefferson Health New Jersey Gala at Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa for a night filled with food, music, and a presentation recognizing Dr. Tamara LaCouture, Chief of Cancer Services for the system’s East Region.
Under LaCouture, the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Centers in both Cherry Hill and Washington Township have grown significantly with the addition of medical oncology suites and further development of the clinical trials program.
She also led the development of the new Cherry Hill cancer center and the rollout of adaptive radiation therapy using the Ethos linear accelerator system.
This new artificial intelligence-driven tool allows highly specialized and customizable treatments that target tumors more effectively with less risk for side effects.
Jefferson Health is the first oncology center in South Jersey to implement this technology, the health system said.
Along with the $475,000 raised by the gala for future healthcare service support, grants that totaled $150,000 were given to ideas from employees for better ways to enhance patient care or staff well-being.
The winners of the 2026 Giving Tank, funded through the Jefferson Health Foundation, include:
$25,000 for at-home heart failure kits that come with monitoring tools that can detect symptoms early and reduce readmissions$25,000 for visual cues that go above patient beds to encourage fall-prevention behavior and reduce injuries$50,000 to revamp the behavioral health crisis unit in Cherry Hill that improves safety, patient dignity, therapeutic offerings, and staff workflow$50,000 for color-coded emergency carts that improve speed, accuracy, and confidence during pediatric emergencies
