NAMI Citrus mental health support groups

NAMI Citrus offers free Recovery Support Groups every Thursday evening from 6-7:30 p.m. at the new Behavioral Resource Center in Beverly Hills. These weekly groups provide a caring, supportive environment for adults living with mental health conditions — as well as for their family members and loved ones — helping the entire community thrive in all areas of health and well‑being.

The NAMI Connection Recovery Support Group offers participants empathetic peer guidance and the opportunity to build meaningful community connections in a safe, judgement‑free space. In addition, the NAMI Family Support Group provides families with valuable insight from adults who have experienced both the challenges and successes of supporting a loved one with behavioral health symptoms.

NAMI Citrus is committed to promoting hope, education, and community support for residents of Citrus County. Through lived experience and compassionate understanding, NAMI Citrus empowers individuals and families to feel valued, respected and connected.

The NAMI Citrus’ recently opened Behavioral Resource Center is at 4067 N. Lecanto Highway, Beverly Hills.

Co-dependents support group meets

Co-Dependents Anonymous (CoDA) is a Twelve Step Fellowship of people whose common purpose is to develop healthy relationships. The only requirement for membership is a desire for healthy and loving relationships.

The CoDA meeting in this area meets at 1 p.m. Wednesdays at Old Schoolhouse Community Center Club Recovery, 2415 N. Florida Ave., Hernando.

Parkinson’s Support Group at hospital

The Tampa General Hospital Crystal River Parkinson’s support group meets at 3 p.m. the third Thursday of each month in the cafeteria, 6201 N. Suncoast Blvd., Crystal River.

Spring Hill hospital offers stroke support

Encompass Rehab Hospital of Springhill offers a stroke support group from noon to 1 p.m., with lunch provided, the third Thursday of each month at 12440 Cortez Blvd., Brooksville.

Topics for discussion include “FAST” education, safety, post-stroke fatigue and other deficits such as increased weakness, speech impairment and increased confusion. Caregivers and family are encouraged to attend in a caring environment to connect with other individuals and caregivers living and coping with the effects of stroke. Share similar experiences, offer support, education on stroke prevention, gain information and learn about community resources.

Stroke survivor, caregiver group meets

A monthly stroke survivor and caregiver support group meets from 3-4 p.m. the last Tuesday of each month at ClearSky Rehabilitation Hospital of Lecanto, 3967 W. Norvell Bryant Highway, Lecanto (next door to YMCA).

Share experiences in a safe, supportive environment and learn tips and resources from medical professionals. Gain strength from others facing similar challenges.

The group is open to survivors, caregivers, family and friends. There are guest speakers and free resources. Light refreshments are served.

Share, support with other nursing parents

Baby & Me, a warm and welcoming space for parents and caregivers to connect, share and support one another on their breastfeeding journey is held every Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Department of Health in Citrus County, 3700 W. Sovereign Path, Lecanto.

Whether you’re expecting, currently nursing or navigating the transition to weaning, this group offers a compassionate community where you can find encouragement, expert guidance and practical tips. Led by experienced lactation consultants and fellow parents, we provide evidence-based advice, answer questions and foster a nurturing environment for both baby and caregiver.

Virtual cancer survivor group with RBOI

Robert Boissoneault Oncology Institute offers a general cancer survivor group virtually, beginning at 9 a.m. Tuesdays.

Group settings can help when people come together with others who have a cancer diagnosis to share sensitive feelings and concerns about their illness. It can help to talk to others who have faced the same diagnosis. RBOI offers this weekly support group Tuesdays at 9 a.m. for patients and caregivers to address fears and uncertainty, increase opportunities to talk with others who share a diagnosis, and enhance knowledge.

In this virtual group setting, people have found they can identify coping strategies to address the emotional challenges that people may experience when diagnosed with cancer.

Support groups offer a safe space for both patients and caregivers. They are facilitated by experienced clinical social workers who have vast knowledge about how cancer can impact patients and caregivers in various ways.

Patients both in active treatment and out of treatment are welcome to attend the support groups. Some patients may feel the need to connect at the beginning of their cancer journey while others feel the need for support once treatment is completed and they are no longer followed as closely by their medical team.

Breast Cancer Support Group meets

A monthly Breast Cancer Support Group meets the second Friday of each month at 11:45 a.m. at Robert Boissoneault Oncology Institute, 522 N. Lecanto Highway.

The Breast Cancer Support Group is free to ladies who are facing a diagnosis of breast cancer who would like to meet others who are going through or have been through the same diagnosis. Many ladies who have survived breast cancer for years still attend to offer encouragement to those who are new in the journey.

Dementia Support available at North Oak Church

Are you a caregiver who is struggling with a loved one suffering with dementia? Bernie Collins is a trained and experienced retired nurse who holds a support group on the first Thursday of each month at 10 a.m. Everyone is welcome.

Nar-Anon meets weekly in Citrus Springs

Nar-Anon Family Group of Citrus County, a support program for people who have been affected by the drug use of a family member or friend, meets from 7-8 p.m. every Thursday at North Citrus Christian Church, 6442 Elkcam Blvd., Citrus Springs.

The only requirement for membership is that there be a problem of addiction in a relative or friend.

As a Twelve-Step program similar to Al-Anon, Nar-Anon offers help by its members sharing their experiences, strength, and hope.

Online dementia support continues

The Citrus Library Coping Connection, a service to provide virtual support to care partners and families of individuals living with dementia, is designed primarily for individuals who do not have access to their own computer.

Conducted online, meetings will be hosted by certified dementia practitioner Debbie Selsavage from 1 to 3 p.m. the first and third Tuesdays monthly. The connection hub is at the Central Ridge Library, 425 W. Roosevelt Blvd. in Beverly Hills.

Participants must arrive at the library by 12:50 p.m. the day of the meeting. They are not required to remain for the full two hours.

Ostomy Support Group at TGH

Tampa General Hospital Crystal River offers an Ostomy Support Group from 3 to 4 p.m. the third Wednesday of each month, located in the third floor Orthopedic Conference Room.

This is a support and education group for people who are living with an ostomy, regardless of their cancer diagnosis. The group will discuss adjusting to living with an ostomy, care and strategies for coping. It is an opportunity for participants to provide each other with emotional and practical support and to share information and experiences.

Topics may include education around ostomy care and supplies, adjusting to life with an ostomy, impact of an ostomy on intimate relationships and coping strategies.

Memory Lane support group, respite program

The Memory Lane support group and respite program for individuals dealing with dementia is held at Grace Methodist Church in Homosassa Mondays from 1-3 p.m. at the church, 5030 S. Memorial Drive.

This program has long been established in Citrus County, beginning as a support group for caregivers who were struggling in their roles. Afternoon respite care was later added for patients with dementia.

Floral City Alzheimer’s group meets

The Floral City Alzheimer’s and Dementia CarePartners Support Group meets at the Floral City Methodist Church on the third Friday monthly at 10:30 a.m.

Helen Ciampi and Marcia Beasley, who are Alzheimer’s Association certified facilitators, will greet those attending in the large fellowship room located in the main church-building at 8480 E. Marvin St. across from the Elementary School house. Gathering precautions are being continued with distance seating, and ceiling fans operating while face masks and hand sanitizer are optional.

Support for the shared concerns and challenges expressed by all care-partners who are involved with a person experiencing dementia are always held in the strictest confidence and with respect. Caregivers may feel free to share whatever they feel comfortable sharing.

Celebrate Recovery in Beverly Hills

Celebrate Recovery meets at Hills Church, 2 Civic Circle, Beverly Hills, from 6-8 p.m. Mondays. This a Christ-centered recovery group for anyone who has a hurt, hang-up or habit that makes one’s life unmanageable.

GriefShare support groups

The journey of grief is a painful process that you don’t have to walk alone. Grief is an emotional wound, which, similar to a physical wound, must be treated for proper healing. Being in a group of understanding and supportive people who are experiencing grief can make grieving easier. The group is open to anyone who has lost a loved one. GriefShare features videos of nationally recognized experts on grief topics and the stories of people who have healed from grief.

Friends offers grief support groups

Anyone who has experienced the loss of a loved one is welcome to find help, hope and healing at one of the many grief support groups provided by Friends of Citrus Grief Services.

“Grief Study” is a faith-based grief study support group that meets at the Wings Grief Center in Homosassa Springs each Monday at 1:30 p.m.“Grief Toolbox” support groups, which help participants acquire the essential tools needed to deal with their grief through video presentations, handouts and group discussions meet every Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at the YMCA in Lecanto, at 1:30 p.m. every Tuesday at First Christian Church of Inverness (2018 Colonade St., Education Building) and 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Wings Grief Center in Homosassa Springs.“The Compassionate Friends,” a support network for those who have lost a child of any age, a sibling or grandchild, meets the second and fourth Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m. at the Wings Grief Center in Homosassa Springs.

Friends of Citrus and the Nature Coast is a charitable organization providing community grief support for anyone who has experienced a loss, adults and children; telephone support; grief support resources for all ages; educational materials for parents and teachers; and children’s grief support camps. Bereavement support group meets

The St. Thomas the Apostle Bereavement Support Group meets from 1-2:30 p.m. every Thursday at the church on U.S. 19, 300 yards south of Cardinal and just past Walmart.

The group takes a positive approach to grief by helping grievers learn how to make a new life, even when they don’t want to. Just come, sit and listen. Thirty years of experience has taught them how to help make a positive difference in a person’s life. Anyone can attend.
