Inside the new Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic on E. Church St. in Elmira

ELMIRA, NY (WENY) — CASA-Trinity, which provides services like addiction prevention and outpatient treatment, is opening a new location in Chemung County. CASA-Trinity executives said they expanded in response to the immediate need in the area.

“In Chemung County, we’re providing services to well over 1,000 people annually,” said the Vice President of Integrated Services for CASA-Trinity, Dina O’Herron.

On Monday, CASA-Trinity reps hosted an Open House for a new Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) on the corner of East Church and Judson Streets. Trained staff will be able to provide people in need with mental health and substance use disorder services.

“We’re really excited about opening this new location. We’re very excited about being able to help the community meet the need for increased care in Elmira,” said the CEO of CASA-Trinity, Ann Domingos.

Officials want to make it clear that the other location on Stowell Street on the city’s northside won’t be closing. (The clinic that was on West Water St. is the one that was relocated to E. Church St.)

The new CCBHC will also offer things like peer services and target case management. O’Herron said that with this expansion, they hope to continue to break down the stigma around substance use disorder and mental health treatment services.

“We’re hoping with CCBHC of breaking down the silos so individuals know they can get both wherever they want to go, fewer service providers they have to be enrolled with, fewer appointments they have to worry about. (we’re) hoping to make it easier for individuals to get everything they need. Individuals can come here voluntarily, meet with people, see what it’s like, and test the environment out. If it’s not the right fit, then we can help find them something more appropriate in a space where they feel safer. We’re hoping folks will give us a try,” said O’Herron.

This project was made possible in part through two grants from the Department of Health, worth $4,000,000 and about $450,000.

The E. Church St. location will be open to the public starting Monday, March 30th.
