Padres could fetch $3B, but for now team is low on cash – and the rotation is shaky

The Padres are about to face one of the most important seasons in recent franchise history.
The team is for sale with a purchase pending, perhaps to Joe Lacob, the owner of the NBA’s Golden State Warriors, the WNBA’s Golden State Valkyries and San Francisco’s Chase Center.
Lacob has made a sizable offer, a spokesman for the Warriors confirmed. The franchise could bring a record for a Major League Baseball team – in excess of $3 billion. There are three other groups contending. The team was valued at $3.1 billion by two business outlets last week, 10th best in MLB and 34% higher than 2025.
Proposition 1 Forces More County Contract Cancellations

A 2024 state ballot measure that directed bond funds toward new behavioral health projects is forcing the county to end longstanding contracts and to inject uncertainty into its mental health system.
San Diego County officials report they’ve now cancelled 29 contracts in preparation for Proposition 1 reforms that shift how counties can spend state taxes on incomes above $1 million and take effect in July. The 2024 measure sought to encourage counties to focus more on serving people with the most serious behavioral health challenges and to invest billions of dollars in behavioral health infrastructure projects across the state. The state has already awarded tens of millions of dollars to San Diego County-backed projects.
Hope and renewal at annual San Diego Rescue Mission Easter celebration March 28

Holidays can be an especially difficult time of the year for those in San Diego dealing with homelessness.
The San Diego Rescue Mission will do its part to make the Easter season a little better for those without a home.
SDRM is hosting its annual Easter Community Meal this Saturday (March 28) from 1 to 3 p.m. The event takes place at 120 Elm Street. (Guests should enter on 2nd Avenue.)
