LOUISVILLE, Ky. (FOX 56) — A woman was shot and killed by police Friday night in Louisville after authorities said she allegedly charged at officers while holding a sharp object.

According to police, officers responded around 7:45 p.m. on March 27 to a home on Vieux Carre Drive for a report of someone experiencing a mental or behavioral health crisis.

The Louisville FOX affiliate, WDRB, reported that officials said the 28-year-old woman had reportedly inflicted cuts on herself and was inside a bathroom armed with what was described as a piece of glass or another edged weapon.

Officers attempted to communicate with her before crews from the Anchorage-Middletown Fire Department forced entry into the bathroom.

Authorities said the woman then exited and charged at officers with a large, sharp object. Two officers opened fire, striking her.

WDRB reported that she was taken to UofL Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Police have not released her identity.

The two officers involved have been placed on administrative leave while the incident is investigated.
