Police were called to the Orbital shopping centre on Tuesday, March 31 following concerns for the welfare of a person ‘undergoing a mental health crisis.’

According to one person shopping at the Orbital, emergency service vehicles could be seen at around 3pm, with crews at the scene for at least an hour.

Since then, 22-year-old Lauren Bulley, of Renoir Close, St Andrews Ridge, has been charged with possession of a sharp pointed article in a public place and intentionally or recklessly causing a public nuisance, in relation to this incident.

Bulley has been accused of being in possession of a dermaplane razor and entering the roof area of the shopping centre without reasonable excuse.

The 22-year-old has also been charged with two counts of wilful obstruction of a highway, relating to separate incidents on the A419.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “We responded to a concern for the welfare of a person undergoing a mental health crisis at the Orbital shopping centre in Swindon. 

“The incident has been resolved safely and they are being given appropriate support.”

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) said: “We were called at 14:27hrs on Tuesday 31 March to an incident in Swindon. We sent one double-crewed land ambulance, and an operations officer to the scene.

“We conveyed one patient by land ambulance to Great Western Hospital.”
