Mental Health Awareness Fair coming to Willis Park

A fair in Willis Park will offer yoga, relaxation activities, and information about mental health to the community on May 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Organized by Georgia Pines Community Service Board in collaboration with The Oak House, Decatur County Sheriff’s Office, Bridge Behavior Consulting, and the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities, the event will take place during Mental Health Awareness Month.
Rachel Kelly of Georgia Pines said it’s important to talk about and reduce the stigma surrounding mental health.
“It impacts everything that we do,” she said. “Everyone knows someone who struggles with mental health.”
But when it comes to treating mental health, the lack of resources is the “biggest barrier,” and needing to find time, transportation, and money doesn’t make things easier. Next month’s fair — a first for Decatur County modeled after similar events in Thomas County — will help bring those resources into the community.
The event will focus on positive mental health: having fun with family, friends, and the community. For more information about the fair, contact Rachel Kelly at rkelly@georgiapines.net or (229) 245-0661.
