PAINESDALE, Mich. (WLUC) – A mental health benefit concert will be held at Jeffers High School later this week.

The school’s high school band, the Lake Linden jazz band, and the Rewind rock band are among the list of performers. All proceeds will go to the unitē Mental Health and Wellness nonprofit organization.

The concert is the work of Jeffers High School senior Olivia Berryman. She is organizing the event as her National Honor Society senior project. However, it also has personal meaning to her.

“One of my family members recently had a mental health crisis,” Berryman said. “So, it really just went to show how important it is to have access to resources that help with mental problems.”

The concert is planned for Friday, May 1. Berryman says this, too, has a purpose, as May is Mental Health Awareness Month.

“I kind of wanted to do something that hadn’t been done before,” Berryman continued. “Because I know we always have students that do the blood drives and penny wars and stuff like that. And so, I figured it would be a good idea to do something with music.”

The concert is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in the school’s old gymnasium. Berryman says it will go for roughly two hours. She also says that donations are the cost of entry, as well as for baked goods available at the concert.
