CLEARFIELD — The Clearfield County Commissioners declared May as Mental Health and Stigma Awareness Month in Clearfield County at Tuesday’s meeting.
The request for the proclamation was made by Kick the Stigma, a nonprofit organization dedicated to mental health awareness and is actively involved in community development, youth outreach and wellness initiatives throughout the region, according to Holly Knoll, board secretary of the nonprofit.
“Kick the Stigma is committed to breaking the silence surrounding mental health,” Knoll said. “We work to create a safe place, provide accessible wellness resources and connect individuals and families with the support that they need.”
She said the organization annually holds a large community wellness event annually, “Kick the Stigma Day of Wellness.” This year’s will be held on May 30 at the DuBois City Park.
The event will include kickball, and pickle ball tournaments, mental health speakers, live music, food trucks, youth art contests and more than 30 mental health providers and wellness resources.
“We, the Clearfield County Commissioners, do hereby proclaim May 2026 as Mental Health and Stigma Awareness Month in Clearfield County, Pennsylvania.”
The proclamation also asks residents to educate themselves about mental health conditions, treatment options and available resources; challenge the stigma by speaking respectfully, compassionately and inclusively about mental health; seek help when struggling and encourage others to do the same; support organizations and initiatives that provide mental health services, education, and advocacy and foster safe and supportive environments that promote an open dialog about mental health and well-being.
