TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – As Mental Health Awareness Month continues, the Mental Health Council of the Big Bend is encouraging families to focus on wellness through a community event Tuesday evening.

The organization will host its seventh annual “Be Kind to Your Mind” event at the Walker Ford Community Center. This year’s theme, “Discover Your Inner Calm,” is designed to help people of all ages learn healthy ways to manage stress and improve their mental well-being.

“Discover your inner calm really has to do with our inner wellness, our spiritual wellness and our ability to pause, take a breath and just be able to calm ourselves,” said Nicole Everette, a member of the Mental Health Council of the Big Bend.

The event will include interactive activities, community resources and opportunities for attendees of all ages to learn coping strategies that support mental health.

“There are lots of coping skills that can help people find inner calm,” said Dr. Fran Close, another member of the council.

Be Kind to Your Mind begins at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 19. Dinner will be served.
