SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — Though Halloween is still a few days away, some kids didn’t have to wait until the holiday to get candy while wearing their costumes.

Siouxland Mental Health Center invited the community for a Trunk or Treat on Sunday, where kids go from car to car collecting candy. This was the eighth year the organization has done this event, and officials said they hope kids enjoy their sweet treats and that more people will tackle their mental health.

“There’s always been a stigma about mental health, and we’re really trying to decrease that stigma by letting people know that the mental health center is a great place to come and it’s safe and just letting people know that we are here for their entire family kids as well as adults,” said Kathy Roberts, with Siouxland Mental Health Center

Roberts said they had roughly 350 kids show up last year and believe this year will have a larger turnout due to the event being on Sunday.
