As an early start to celebrating Father’s Day, Maricopa County Department of Public Health (MCDPH) is hosting a community baby shower, focused on fathers of children two years old and younger, and expectant fathers.
“While parenthood can be a deeply joyful and rewarding experience, it can also come with its fair share of challenges,” said Supervisor Steve Gallardo, Maricopa County Board of Supervisors, District 5. “This event reminds parents, especially fathers, that it’s okay to ask for help and seek out community resources that can help them better care for their kids.”
MCDPH’s South Phoenix Healthy Start (SPHS) program is organizing the D.A.D. (Disciplined, Attentive, Diligent Fathers) Baby Shower to celebrate fathers and give them resources that will help them with the important role they play in their children’s lives. The event is free to attend, and the entire family is welcome. It will be held at the South Mountain Community Center from 10am to 2pm on Saturday, June 13.
“Dads play a crucial role in kids’ lives, and we’re excited to bring together resources to help dads to thrive in this role,” said Meloney Baty, South Phoenix Healthy Start Program Supervisor. “It can be hard to prioritize yourself when you’re juggling work, parenting, and other responsibilities, so we make it easier by bringing these services together each June.”
Resources at this event will include:
Classes Nurturing Fathers, Phoenix Children’s Hospital on water safety, and WIC and nutritionVendors such as mental health support and career training opportunities to help dads grow in careers with livable wagesConnection with other fathers seeking community and supportFamily-friendly activities like games, giveaways, music, and more
Fathers who want to attend are encouraged to RSVP online or by calling (602) 320-2724 by June 11, 2026.
“Parents have a variety of needs, just like their kids do,” said Baty. “Public Health and our partners are here to support dads, even before their children are born.”
