SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. (KVOA) – A person experiencing a mental health crisis was taken into custody after a tense standoff that prompted police to establish a perimeter and deploy a robot to search a home, according to the Sierra Vista Police Department.
On June 10 around 2 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Shiela Lane and Sulger Street following a report of an active suicidal subject. The caller became unresponsive to dispatcher questions, and yelling could be heard over the phone line, SVPD said.
A sound that may have been a gunshot was also heard during the call, according to SVPD. Officers established a perimeter around the residence and called for occupants to exit.
One person was taken into custody, but authorities were uncertain whether anyone else remained inside the home, the department said. A robot was deployed to clear the residence and confirmed no additional individuals were present.
The person in crisis was transported to a hospital for evaluation and treatment. No injuries were reported during the incident.
