LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — One year after announcing plans for a massive new pediatric campus in Jeffersontown, Norton Children’s said the project is moving forward with a sharper focus on what families say they need most: expanded mental health care, autism services and improved spaces for patients and caregivers.

The new campus and second children’s hospital are planned for a 152-acre site in Jeffersontown. The project is designed to help meet growing demand for specialized pediatric care across Kentucky and southern Indiana.

Norton Children’s said community feedback has helped shape priorities for the campus, including expanded behavioral health and autism services, upgraded patient rooms and more family-centered amenities.

The health system said the size of the property provides a unique opportunity to design a campus dedicated entirely to pediatric patients and their families, with room to accommodate future growth.

Norton Children’s currently serves more than 215,000 patients each year and expects demand for services to continue increasing in the years ahead.

Planning and design work are ongoing as officials work to develop the campus and determine how best to meet the needs of future patients and caregivers.
