The mental health non-profit To Write Love on Her Arms (TWLOHA) is celebrating its 20th anniversary with the release of the new documentary To Write Love. The film commemorates the many artists, advocates, and partners who have helped to amplify its mission over the years.

TWLOHA has had a big impact on the Alternative music scene, advocating for mental health services and hope for decades. The documentary weaves together conversations with some of the organization’s most influential supporters, including Paramore, Miley Cyrus, Anberlin, Switchfoot, and more, with the voices of their workers.

Executive Director Lindsay Kolsch shares:

We’re incredibly grateful to celebrate 20 years and to share the ongoing story of this movement. The documentary weaves together the voices of the people who kept fighting for this conversation, for their own stories, and for their communities,” shares “What you experience in this film is a true picture of what happens when thousands of people start to believe that it’s not weak to ask for help, and that sharing our stories gives others permission and courage to do the same.

This movement has played a significant part in why the conversations around mental health are no longer ones people feel they have to keep quiet. We made this documentary with the hope that it moves anyone still sitting in silence. We want people to know that hope is real, help is real, and your story matters.

The film “explores what happens when vulnerability becomes action and how you can play a role in getting people the help they need and deserve.”

This Fall, TWLOHA will host live watch parties with special guests who have played a role in their growth over the years, and are set to announce a screening house tour.

Previously hosted livestream guests included Kevin Lyman, the founder of Vans Warped Tour. Their goal is to fund 20,000 hours of mental health care and therapy through peer support. Every screening hosted brings that goal closer to reality.

Whether you gather a few of your favorite people for a friends and family screening or organize a larger community screening (designed for groups of 20+), hosting a screening is a direct and meaningful way to make a difference.
