Plumas District Hospital announces a series of free behavioral health workshops and support groups available to community members throughout the summer and fall. These programs are designed to provide support, connection, education and practical coping tools for individuals across all stages of life.
The workshops are open to the public and offered free of charge as part of the hospital’s ongoing commitment to improving access to mental and behavioral health resources in rural communities, said PDH. Community members can learn more and register online on the PDH website.
Vintage Vibes & Valiant Hearts
The free behavioral health group Vintage Vibes & Valiant Hearts is designed specifically for adults age 65 and older. Aging can often bring loss of sense of purpose, grief, anxiety and a shrinking social circle. Through a progressive curriculum, participants will work together to process loss, manage stress and anxiety, and rebuild meaningful community connections in a supportive environment, said PDH.
Seeking Safety
The Seeking Safety group workshop consists of two 12-session series, meeting once every Tuesday for 12 weeks. The program is designed for adults with a history of trauma and/or substance use challenges. PDH said the Seeking Safety model focuses on the intersection of trauma and addiction while emphasizing immediate safety, healthy coping strategies and practical life skills rather than
revisiting traumatic memories in depth.
Teen group
The weekly Thursday teen group offers teens ages 13 through 17 a creative and supportive space to navigate the challenges of adolescence and high school life. Through art, journaling, discussion and interactive activities, participants will learn practical tools for managing stress, anxiety and difficult emotions.
The open-format group allows teens to join at any time and attend as their schedule allows.
Postpartum support
An open postpartum support group meets every other Thursday for 90-minute sessions and welcomes new mothers seeking encouragement, understanding and connection. The group aims to create a safe and supportive environment where participants can share
experiences, discuss challenges, exchange advice and receive emotional support from others navigating similar transitions into motherhood.
Health care professionals workshop
This free two-hour workshop, scheduled for Sept. 10, is designed specifically for health care professionals and caregivers. The session will focus on practical wellness strategies and peer support topics including
Guided relaxation techniques
Body scan and muscle tension awareness
Building sustainable wellness habits
Positive networking and support in a small-town environment
Conflict management strategies
Recognizing and managing personal biases
Practicing positive intent and compassionate communication
“These workshops are about creating connection, reducing stigma and making behavioral health support more accessible for our community,” said PDH representatives. “Whether someone is navigating trauma, parenthood, aging, stress or simply looking for support, we want people to know they are not alone.”
