LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – The Lexington-Fayette County Health Department says another skunk found in the city has tested positive for rabies.
We’re told a resident in the Indian Hills and Stonewall neighborhoods neighborhood discovered the skunk. Both of the resident’s dogs were exposed to the skunk, and one was bitten.
The health department posted signs in the area on Monday to notify residents of the discovery and ask them to watch their pets.
This comes after another rabid skunk was found in the Andover Hills neighborhood earlier in the month.
LFCHD officials say residents should make sure their pets have a current rabies vaccination.
Rabies is a viral disease that affects humans, pets, and wild animals. It is transmitted from animals to humans by the saliva of a rabid animal, usually from a bite. State law requires that all dogs, cats, and ferrets maintain a current rabies vaccination.
