Centria Autism will permanently lay off 48 employees at its Fresno, California, location.
According to a California WARN notice, the layoffs are expected to be completed by the end of July.
Centria Autism, a division of Centria Healthcare, is one of the country’s largest autism service providers. Farmington Hills, Michigan-based Centria Healthcare was the largest recipient of Medicaid funding for select autism therapy-related services in 2024, accounting for 3.9% of all spending in that category, according to publicly available Medicaid data.
The company offers diagnostic services, in-home applied behavior analysis (ABA), and center-based ABA.
The layoffs represent a relatively small portion of Centria’s overall workforce. The company employs roughly 6,000 full- and part-time employees. Centria Healthcare is backed by private equity firm Thomas H. Lee Partners.
Centria is not the only autism provider to announce layoffs in recent weeks. ABA Centers of America also appears to have conducted a round of layoffs. Sources familiar with the matter said the cuts were related to Optum ending its relationship with the company. Optum confirmed to BHB that it is no longer doing business with the provider.
Earlier this year, the Comprehensive Autism Center announced plans to close two of its three clinics, affecting 62 employees.
