REDDING, Calif. — Arieanna Bruner of Redding was in court Tuesday morning for a mental competency hearing. However, it was continued after the two doctors who evaluated her submitted conflicting reports.

Bruner was arrested in September for six counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14 years of age, with police reports alleging there were at least three different victims over a period of three years.

Her defense requested Bruner be evaluated on whether she was mentally competent to stand trial. The prosecution and defense each paid their own doctors to perform the evaluations.

However, it was revealed in court Tuesday morning that the two doctors’ reports conflicted, with the prosecution’s doctor finding Bruner competent to stand trial and the defense finding she was not.

To break the tie, the judge is having the court pay for a third doctor to perform another review. They’ll return to court Nov. 19 at 8:30 a.m. to review the results and determine how to move forward.
