We are so accustomed to living in a world with bad support that we can’t imagine how much better the alternative could be.

Yeah but why? Are there not enough psychiatrists in Canada?
A two year wait time for psychiatric services is no care at all. Our system has utterly failed and now represents a human rights violation. We need to consider ALL options to bring real healthcare back to this country.
I went behind my GPsback to the drop-in mental health and they said I was a good candidate they just have to check with my GP so I gave them his number and made an appointment with him to explain… he wasn’t happy because I’d previously turned down the anti-depressants he persuaded me to try. We got into a silly argument about it and he dropped me as a patient, I called the mental health clinic and they said they couldn’t help me because i didn’t have a family doctor. I still don’t have a family doctor and I really feel like I was punished for asking for help. I don’t think GPs should have as much power as they do, it makes me sick to my stomach to be honest.
Don't worry, it's still better than in the US…

I’m in the US. At least you have a wait list. I have only a couple of psychiatrists in my area and they aren’t accepting new patients.

What do you expect from a conservative right-wing government of Saskatchewan even with awful Doug Ford in Ontario access can almost be immediate that's why even though housing is cheaper you have more land to build nobody wants to move there

Lets be honest. these people cater to many hypochondriacs and wealthy folks who are bored and lonely and are often not in need of support.
Perhaps they should triage and offset some of these less urgent cases to self help. or triage wealthier people out to private practices.
In grade 2 I was bullied and a teacher caught me pushing a kid who attacked me. They kid screamed at me saying I was taking all their friends….but this kid stole something and didn't share so people naturally moved away from them. The teacher didn't see me get attacked. For this they forced me to talk to a child psychologist who tried to convince me I was an awful person. I was a good kid. I believed then. They destroyed my development and overnight I went from happy and popular to a loner introvert. I wanted to run away because my parents removed support, let my sister bully me, treated me like slave labor while my sister got raised as a princess. But I stuck it out, put myself through school and moved out as soon as I could away from my abusers and abandoners.
Its a shame that I got sent back home when my employers allowed ethnic cliques to bully me out of a living. It feels like I'll never escape society's willingness to hurt folks to get something they haven't worked for, and look away from a problem instead of solve it. We enable and support the WRONG people, and abandon the victims. Usually its because of perceived wealth. I looked poor so was treated like a problem. Its heartbreaking.
I think these people damage folks. They are not helping people in the right way. We should not be government subsidizing them.
I waited 3 years for 12 sessions, living with Complex PTSD. This country does nothing for us there are no services available but keep paying your taxes !!

Medical universities are full too capacity though… Read that again slowly.
and companies (ISM) and insurance (Cooperators) are denying doctor/psych notes when you do get them and deny coverage/healthcare. Work or be terminated.
One word: Socialism.
