Mental Health Crisis: Mental Health Care in Minority Communities
Kimberly N. Frazier, Ph.D., addresses the massive scope of the mental health crisis and how it impacts minority communities in different ways.
There is a workforce shortage across the United States in integrative mental health. This not only negatively impacts those struggling with mental health issues and illnesses, but it makes it that much harder for black and brown communities to work towards breaking the stigma around mental health treatment.
Saybrook University recently held the President’s Symposium on Integrative Mental Health to highlight this pressing issue. Panelists exchanged ideas on the current escalation of suicides and violence in America, the lack of access to mental health services for disadvantaged communities, the benefits of integrative care, and recommendations to address both the current mental health crisis and the ongoing community conditions that exacerbate mental illness.
