Some Colorado lawmakers craft plan to provide millions to safety net providers

One Colorado lawmaker is sponsoring a bill to provide at least $60 million over the next three years for primary care and behavioral health providers that are considered “safety net providers” because they serve a large number of uninsured and underinsured.

  1. and northern Colorado patients cross the border into Wyoming to receive the care they need; but unfortunately most of them never pay a dime for the cost of the care they received. The government insurance programs do not cover Colorado patients who receive care in Wyoming and there are no avenues for Wyoming care givers to bill for the medications, supplies, nursing and physician care they provided to these patients. So they are getting FREE healthcare and Wyoming is suffering the loss and has to make cuts to cover the costs, which means less healthcare providers/resources for the people of Wyoming. This is what a single-payer system looks like.
