Located in Hyderabad, the Institute of Mental Health (IMH), Erragadda, is one of India’s oldest and most historically significant mental health institutions. Established in 1895 during the Nizam’s era, it has evolved from a custodial asylum to a modern mental healthcare and research center. With a capacity of over 600 beds, IMH provides psychiatric treatment, de-addiction services, psychotherapy, and vocational rehabilitation. Affiliated with Kaloji Narayana Rao University, the hospital also serves as a teaching institute for future psychiatrists. Despite its critical role, the hospital’s legacy and contribution often remain underappreciated.
