There have been more and more groups claiming to want to improve children and teen's MH for decades now yet it only keeps getting worse and worse. The lack of counselors is not the problem, it's the culture they're immersed in that exist 40-50 years ago. That's the problem. And until that's fixed, it's never going to get better.

Tragically in the American healthcare system we still don’t view mental health in the lens that we should. Someone goes into a doctors office and says I have a mental health problem like a depression and overwhelming majority of the time we treat depression with appeal. Of course there are problems with treating depression with a pill anytime your medication levels are off You will likely have problems mentally. Problems you aren’t accustomed to dealing with unless you’re at your right medication level. You either feel really up or you feel really down and the only way you’ve ever dealt with that is medication. There are some people who are depressed. who need to be on medication people suffering from severe depression, but most people shouldn’t be on medication who suffer from depression. Most people should actually be talking to a therapist, learning how to work through depressing episodes learning how to deal with the mental illness they suffer from. But when we prescribed the pill to someone to treat a mental illness, the pharmaceutical company makes a lot of money so that’s what we do. Ironically, in case someone wanted to know the cost the same amount of money to treat a mental illness with a pill as it does to treat it with a therapist, but you typically see better results with a therapist.
