Novant Health: Expanding mental health services across the Carolinas.
Building a holistic, integrated, patient-centric mental health service that meets people where they are is essential in supporting community mental wellness. In North Carolina, this is the mission of Novant Health Psychiatry Institute – a mission that is guiding the institute’s expansion across the Carolinas.
Novant Health is an integrated network of nearly 900 locations, including 19 hospitals, more than 750 physician clinics and urgent care centers, outpatient facilities, and imaging and pharmacy services. This network supports a seamless and personalized healthcare experience for communities in North Carolina and South Carolina.
Novant Health is nationally recognized for our unwavering commitment to safety and the highest quality care, and we serve as a catalyst for healthcare transformation through clinical trials, leading-edge research, innovative care delivery models and robust virtual care networks. Novant Health has more than 41,000 team members along with more than 8,600 independent and employed clinicians, and their work is directed by what we call “Our Cause,” which states: We create a healthier future and bring remarkable experiences to life.
The Novant Health Psychiatry Institute has more than 1,000 team members and provides integrated care, addressing physical, emotional and behavioral needs. We support all stages of a patient’s journey. Novant Health’s psychiatric care provides a diverse range of treatment options through multidisciplinary teams to ensure patients get the care they need. Care is integrated, addressing physical, emotional and behavioral needs, providing holistic support at all stages of a patient’s journey.
Community integration is key to wellness. Novant Health works with local organizations to enhance mental health services. We partner with organizations such as HopeWay, with which we’re expanding mental health treatment access to people without insurance, and Katie Blessing Center, with which we will create an adolescent behavioral health urgent care in Charlotte.
Novant Health is also leading discussions on mental health and destigmatizing mental illness through community education. Patients are also feeding back into the system through peer mentorship programs, specifically enabling young people to help peers in navigating mental health.
One extremely important role Novant Health plays is in our collaboration with the school system. Beginning in several middle schools, our school-based telepsychiatry program has expanded across the entire counties of Brunswick and Rowan, offering timely mental health support to thousands of students from kindergarten through 12th grade. The impact of these services – for example, reduction in use of emergency services by these students – has led to increased funding for this program.
Novant Health is known for our physician-led and physician-driven approach at every level of leadership – a model that improves clinician and patient satisfaction, as well as care quality. It’s also a great place to train, with residents getting access to diverse rotations across a range of specialties and localities, as well as robust support for career development, including career planning resources and research opportunities.
Novant Health is making a major impact on patient lives, with over $1.6 billion of community benefit provided in 2024 alone. Novant Health is also continuing to expand and innovate, with new digital health initiatives designed to enhance mental health services – ensuring that our care teams will continue to be able to make a major difference to the lives of the people and the communities we serve.
