Anxiety Medication: Why Are We Not Talking About This? (Part 1 of 3) (Podcast Ep 320)
Should you take medication for anxiety? It’s one of the most common questions I receive, but here’s why I won’t answer it – and why other mental health content creators shouldn’t either.
(This is part 1 of a 3-part series on medication and online mental health content.)
In this first video, I explore the first crucial reason why online helpers must be extremely careful when discussing medication for anxiety: the principles of personal autonomy and individual beliefs. Every person deserves the right to make their own informed decisions about their mental health treatment without being influenced by voices of authority online.
What You’ll Learn:
– Why medication decisions are deeply personal and individual
– How content creators can accidentally challenge your autonomy
– The difference between med-shaming and respecting personal choice
– Why there’s no “right” or “wrong” answer when it comes to anxiety medication
– How to navigate conflicting information about medication online
Important Note:
This content is educational and based on my experience as both a therapist and someone who has lived with anxiety disorders. This is not medical advice, and medication decisions should always be made in consultation with qualified healthcare professionals who know your specific situation.
Whether you’re considering medication for anxiety, currently taking medication, or exploring alternatives, remember that your choice is valid and personal. The goal isn’t to convince you one way or another – it’s to help you understand why these conversations require careful consideration.

I agree with you Drew. Everyone's situation, ideas, beliefs and health are so individual. However you get through it, is OK. It's the end goal that matters.
Hi Drew
You have been incredly helpful with my anxiety recovery over the last year and a half, I’m a different person since then and at the moment my sister is struggling with losing her first dog, he was 10 and had the best life but had an unknown medical condition and sadly had to be put to sleep.
Ive been trying to help guide her through how I’ve overcome my worst days with anxiety however im not sure how to get past the grief aswell is this anything you can help with?
She is waking up in the night having panic attacks and also is very aware of her body sensations like rapid heart rate and that spikes her anxiety,
Thank you
