Exercise: A Mental Break

the timeout idea came from the notion that people get stressed by their work commitments and other commitments and what you need is a little bit of time out from your daily cares and worries some people like that idea and follow that in their own lives where they’ll say I’m just going to take five minutes and take a nap or just go for a little walk whatever their strategy is we took students who were working hard and studying all the time we asked them to do exercise take a break from their studying or to exercise and study where they’d exercise and couldn’t take a break they didn’t get the time out in one case in another case they did get the time out in our study we did show that the anxiety reduction after exercise was better when they did not study as opposed to an exercise condition where they were actually studying our data would suggest certainly if it’s a thing that you’re doing at work or something stressing you out get away from that

In this video, we explore the idea that exercise is not just physical activity, but also a mental break.
