u think too much
You overthink and strategize
about peacekeeping. You overthink interactions from the past. You spiral about the future. Here’s your real problem. You’re not safe. Your brain is trying to
think its way to safety. Your health anxiety, your social
analysis, your future catastrophizing. It’s all your nervous system saying, if
I can just figure this out, I’ll be okay. But here’s the thing, you can’t think
your way out of not feeling safe. until you learn to name
what you actually feel. In your body: scared,
angry, sad, overwhelmed. Your brain will keep spinning in
circles trying to solve an emotional problem with mental energy. Stop trying to think your way to safety. Start feeling your way there.

Stuck in your head? This one’s for you.
Overthinking is one of the most common patterns I see in my practice as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Whether you have ADHD, complex trauma, or you’re neurodivergent, that analytical brain that helped you survive can become a prison when it won’t turn off.
The Real Problem with Overthinking:
Your nervous system learned to scan for danger, analyze every angle, and prepare for every possible outcome. It was adaptive once – now it’s exhausting. When you’re stuck in analysis paralysis, you’re not living, you’re surviving.
Why This Happens (Especially with ADHD/Trauma):
– ADHD brains seek certainty in an uncertain world
– Trauma survivors learned hypervigilance as protection
– Neurodivergent minds process information differently, leading to overwhelm
The Quick Reality Check:
Sometimes you need permission to stop. Your brain will tell you “just one more angle” or “what if I missed something?” But here’s the truth – some decisions don’t need perfect analysis. Some feelings don’t need to be figured out. Some thoughts can just… pass.
What This Looks Like in Practice:
In my work with adults managing ADHD, complex trauma (C-PTSD), and neurodivergent challenges, I see brilliant people trapped by their own intelligence. They think their way into anxiety, depression, and complete paralysis. The solution isn’t to think better – it’s to learn when to stop thinking.
Your Nervous System CAN Learn New Patterns:
The same brain that learned to survive through analysis can learn to thrive through trust. Trust in your intuition. Trust in imperfect action. Trust that not every thought deserves your attention.
