Study highlights mental health toll after Maui wildfires
The August 2023 wildfires caused damage to people’s homes, but the flames also left behind unseen damage to people’s health, both mentally and physically. A new study found suicides and drug overdose deaths rose by nearly 50% statewide after the fires. But on Maui, that number was up by 97%. This data was recently published in the Journal of American Medical Association or JAMAMA. Researchers say the grief over a lost loved one and their homes may have taken a toll on people’s mental health. After two years, families like ours have exhausted all of their savings. They’ve exa exhausted all of their financial, you know, options. If you try to resurrect, if you try to reestablish a business that was once here and did well, forget about it, man. Alfie Baserto experienced the fire’s mental health toll firsthand. He and others say the need for mental health services is more important now than ever. If you or a loved one are in need of mental health support after the fires, you can call or text the Hawaii CARES 988 24hour hotline. That number is on your screen. 988

My boyfriend tried to repeat the trick from this video and now we have a new record – lots of laughs and a minor disaster🌺
All hope loss. gooberment doesn't care. They offer no help at all. All they care about is making money off the fire. drugs are a major problem all through the state. but the gooberment is doing nothing about it. See chronics "out of it" all over the place, but the cops don't even stop to see if they need help. At night chronics walking in the streets. and cops just drive around them. See/smell people driving and smoking dope all over the place. Sometimes cops right in front of me. I know they can smell it to. but they don't do anything. Guess they don't want to get out of the A/C and do their job. To much trouble for them. Friend got scolded, by a cop, for reporting two chronics smoking at a mcdonalds. Time to flush the hpd bowl, and look for people who want to do the job, not just doing it for the money and power.
