The Secret Your Therapist Doesn’t Want You to Know (It’s 5,000 Years Old)

With western psychology, it’s education about behavior change. The most popular type of western psychology some of you have probably heard of is called CBT, cognitive behavioral therapy, right? And so it’s about like you have this problem and so now here’s the behavior and now what thought was driving that behavior. So now change that thought. So then you change your behavior. Great. So what Baba calls that is cutting the grass and how long till the grass grows again, you know. So it’s fine because we need to know how to do that. But we have to also get to the some scars. So I actually I’ll do cognitive behavioral therapy. I’ll do that western approach with a lot of my clients because they’re in pain at the moment. And so I’m trying to help just calm down the pain for that week. And then eventually when they can stay calm for long enough, we can go in and rip out that samscara, you know. So I do I do mix these. They’re both helpful.

Stop trimming your trauma—managing symptoms with CBT is like cutting the grass, it always grows back. Vedic Psychology pulls the roots so you can finally uproot the problem for good.

  1. Thank you for pointing out the difference between Western psychology and Vedic Psychology. It looks like Vedic Psychology is focused on addressing the root problem, in this case samskaras, while Western Psychology, CBT, is geared towards addressing the currently prevailing issue. I can see how both are useful taking into consideration individual circumstances. You really can’t pull out weeds when you are so hungry you do not have any strength.

  2. Why should we mow the continuous 'overgrowth' of the mind when we can instead over time put in the labor to uproot those troublesome samskaras? I really like this illustration talked about here.

  3. From my own experience it is clear that changing thoughts and behaviors is not permanent. Thus, I'm curious how you rip out the root. Please make more videos!

  4. Wow, Vedic psychology is such and interesting thing, and from my point of view, it have such successful approach to life… being able to relive the pain but at the same time uprooting the source of the pain, is basically the full job in one package.❤

  5. That was an interesting contrast between Western and Vedic psychology. I have heard of CBT, but I have also heard of mindfulness meditation. Is samskara healing similar to mindfulness meditation? I had a free mental health session from my workplace where the therapist did a guided full body relaxation with mindfulness. It was pretty relaxing.

  6. What an important point! Western psychology like CBT offers a temporal relieve, while Vedic Psychology goes to the root and, therefore, offers a permanent solution!!!
