We’re not soft
I don’t think we’re softer. I think living is harder. There’s so much pressure from all different angles. One in two of us feel chronically anxious about the future. What’s really interesting as well is from that data, only 15% of Australians actually feel really passionate about the position that they’re currently in. A lot of us are looking for work that feels more meaningful in a world that is full of so much anxiety. We’re looking for ways that we can actually take action and feel better. We’re looking for purpose. We’re looking for flexibility. and we’re looking for a sense of impact over our world and our, you know, surroundings. You’re such a good talker on this. No wonder you got to see the prime minister one-on-one. What would you like to see the government do in this space? I would love for the Australian government to invest more in preventative mental health. I want to see them fund uh more education around mental health, mental health literacy, the kind of stuff that we’re doing at a grassroots level that we know is really successful. We want to see youth getting ahead through things that are not disconnected from our mental health such as um the cost of living crisis, housing, being able to afford to go to cognitive behavioral therapy, things like that. All of that is so tied into our identity, our sense of safety and stability. Ultimately, we’ve got this identity crisis and we’ve got this grief that we’re not able to achieve those more traditional success milestones that our parents were able to, such as buying a home and having kids. We’re waiting later to do that because the conditions are fast tougher.
We’re not soft. We’re surviving in a tougher world. We’re constantly scrutinised for for wanting purpose, or for being on a never-ending soul search. but in a world this overwhelming, of course we’re craving meaning. Of course we want to feel something deeper. Otherwise, what is all this tension even for? And being passionate or curious is not a weakness.. it’s a very human response to the very chaotic state of the world. What do you think? We’d love to hear how this feels for you ↓ #mentalhealth #wellbeing #costofliving #genzmentalhealth #realtalk

Thank God anxiety was only created in the year 2000, all of our parents and grandparents never had it… Whilst I appreciate my generation is much more financially handicapped, however to suggest there were no mental health issues for previous generations is ridiculous.
