“I Need My Bladder to Feel Just Right” #why

Source: @sundazemacy

Bladder OCD is a form of obsessive-compulsive disorder where a person becomes overly preoccupied with sensations related to their bladder and the fear of accidents. Someone experiencing this may constantly monitor how full their bladder feels, worry excessively about needing the bathroom, or fear that they won’t make it in time. These intrusive thoughts can feel overwhelming and difficult to control, even when there is no real medical issue with the bladder.
To cope with these anxieties, people often develop compulsive behaviours, such as repeatedly using the toilet “just in case,” restricting fluid intake, or planning their day around bathroom access. While these rituals might provide short-term relief, they actually reinforce the cycle of fear and preoccupation. Over time, bladder OCD can disrupt daily life, social activities, and overall wellbeing, making professional support important for breaking the cycle and finding healthier ways to manage the anxiety.

  1. I've oddly been developing various allergies lately, which has been causing my urinary tract to be inflamed – constantly feel like I have a UTI, and it has been so frustrating. The incontinence and having to pee multiple times every night. I pin pointed the food causing it is nuts, whey protein, red meat, and sometimes corn, but I can't do much about the pollens, neighbor's pot smoke, and forest fire smoke.

  2. I have this. I’ll go potty 2-3 times before bed otherwise “something bad might happen.” I’ve fought it by forcing myself to go to bed with the feeling and I tell myself I’ll worry about it later. If the feeling is real I’ll just wake up in an hour and go then. It helps a lot. I was a bedwetter till I was about eight years old.

  3. It could also be a sign of kidney issues like water retention. I was undiagnosed and went untreated with diabetes (which affects everything) for years and only just got a diuretic in may. I've lost so much water weight and my bladder feels normal again.

  4. I've had those compulsive thoughts and I thought its some sort of disease. I'm autistic and going to a public bathroom is my worst nightmare, so I control my water intake, even when im at home. That leads to worse troubles and thoughts than an actual sickness.

  5. I drink a little too much water because every med I'm on causes dry mouth. Eventually, it catches up with me and I'm zombie-walking to the bathroom at two in the morning.

  6. I kind of do this. I will without fail go to toilet right before bed. But If I happen to lay awake for an hour or so(insomnia) I will go again. I don’t consider it a problem though.

  7. Pelvic floor physiotherapy can help with this issue, as well. They can do ultrasound scans to determine how full the bladder is, and do massage treatments. Lol

  8. I have IC (Interstitial Cystitis) and this is a big struggle. If I don't completely empty my bladder before bed I will have an accident. It's annoying, time consuming and VERY painful. I had to train my husband that when I say I need to use the restroom it means NOW!

  9. I have issues with this, but I also have bladder issues because I have nerve damage. I frequently have accidents. I must pee before I eat, sleep, leave the house. Anything really

  10. As an autistic person I think it's a sensory thing for me sometimes, it can be overstimulating sometimes to not pee, unless I am super hyper focused on something, than I forget until I feel like I am going to burst.

  11. I had this for a good reason at first, as an autistic kid bed wetting sometimes happend to me until I was like 12… Skip 10 more years into the future and everything was fine. UNTIL I once wetted my bed again because In my dream I found a toilet and decided to do my business 😭😭 Never again, I will happily get out of my bed 3 times before I can sleep now. I'm fine with the OCD on this, I've had OCD-ish behaviours before and manage to deal with it quite alright. This is the one behaviour I'm actually thankful of now, because who knows when I will see a toilet appear in my dreams again 😭

  12. I have this. I wee about 6 times after getting into bed. But I drink water and diet coke late into the evening so it's to be expected. You have to stop drinking if you want less urination 😅

  13. I experience this! I'm self aware enough to know it's a mind thing, I can practically feel my brain shifting focus to my bladder. Sometimes I can distract myself enough to let it go, but sometimes I have to follow the compulsion in order to sleep.

  14. I do that because I have no choice, literally. Had the same problem ever since I was born, sadly some relatives have it too.😕 I could never go to anyone's house(overnight)as a kid because I'd have to get up to pee all the time.
