I am not a big fan of anxiety meds. I work it out in my head like this: its an adrenaline dump by an altered flight or fight. I know thats stripped down but its not wrong. The longer you sit with ut the longer the adrenaline takes to burn off. So when I am anxious I try to get up and get moving. Meds just numb the brain and when I actually need to trigger that response I dont know if I will ne able to.
My wife was on this after having long Covid that caused a high heart rate for about a year
The high heart rate resolved, but she had her first manic episode in the middle of that year.
She’s only on an antipsychotic at night now and no mood stabilizer. We realized when she missed her morning propranolol dose that it had a significant impact on her mood so this might explain why her anxiety/sadness/flatness was a little more all over the place when she missed it.
I wake up with anxiety at times, but it really seems to happen out of the blue. Nothing bothering me before bed. Not upset or stressed about anything, but wham! 20 minutes to an hour after falling asleep I'm awake feeling like something is bad wrong, heart beating really fast, and it's so scary I begin to cry. Sometimes I feel this impending sense of doom, but I have to get up and walk around. Walking around slowly and sipping water while I'm praying and naming everything that I'm grateful for in my life usually calms me down. It takes about an hour sometimes 2 to get everything calmed down. Then I'm exhausted and go back to sleep until I need to get up in the morning. Being in perimenopause I'm thinking it might could be a down shift in my progesterone or estrogen that makes my brain freak out. If it was something else physical, the symptoms should get worse over time or more symptoms show up. It's some how always the same. Nothing new. No new symptoms just a sudden anxiety attack that leaves just as suddenly as it starts. Been happening since my mid 30's and I'm 53 now. Perimenopause is a doozy of a ride and it ain't for the weak. 😂😂
Seriously, if I had other symptoms start showing up, or if it was happening every night I'd be at the ER or going to a Doctor. I just cut back on the caffeine and keep aware of how often it happens. At this point, it's just once every 3-6 months.
I used to be on propranolol for this reason but metoprolol ended up working a bit better – plus I have sinus tachycardia so it's not a prn like the propranolol was, I take scheduled doses
my doc and i were considering trying to use this for my PTSD-induced panic attacks/flashbacks at one point, but i didn’t end up trying it because it would require dosing as soon as symptoms onset and then suffering for 30-40 minutes before getting relief (during which the flashback may have already ended, so it very well could’ve just been useless).
i’m curious if anyone else has tried it out for that. i use non-medication methods to manage my flashbacks now.
My husband has ADHD, depression and was on medication for many years. When we moved and he had to get a new Doctor. Unfortunately because my husband was nearly 68, the Doctor said ADHD medication was not recommended for someone his age and he wouldn't renew his prescription. The Dr didn't even offer to wean him off the meds! He left him with no meds and had him go. God so kind a friend recommended us to mushrooms (psilocybin) precisely. After his experience with shrooms five years ago till now there's no more ADHD, depression and mental disorder. Shrooms are life changing. There is no way you can put into words what it feels
Funny story. I have intention tremors (and anxiety) and when I was an inexperienced nurse, my tremor while drawing blood/ inserting IVs was super problematic. Propranolol 10mg was a godsend. And with experience and expertise, I no longer needed it!
Not a doctor but I've taken propranolol for years.
Be VERY CAREFUL when you start propranolol. Ask your doctor or pharmacist about tapering on. Some people can have a low heart beat or low blood pressure if they just start immediately on a full dose. Many doctors will have you take 1/4 dose then half the next day then full the third day to see how you react. And PLEASE DO NOT take your first dose while you're alone or before you drive. You can pass out and you need someone there to help you and if you pass out while driving you could crash. This drug is amazing it just takes some care and consideration when starting it.
propranolol helped me sooo much with anxiety but unfortunately i noticed when it was wearing off i would get super emotional and cry a lot, and get headaches which was super weird and unfortunate
I used to be on this and LOVED how much it helped me (for anxiety, migraines, AND palpitations.) But then my doctor switched me to Atenolol 🙁 Still works mostly, just not as perfect

I was just prescribed this and it's working so well! I can finally speak in front of a room of people without being sent into a panic attack
I had a similar one for migraine prevention… not good. Made me very very tired 😭
life changing for me, honestly
And if you have panic disorder, Propranolol ER 120mg once a day.
I will stay with my koltipin
Yep! Started it for PVCs, ended up taking it for anxiety since it worked well for me with a relatively small dose. Everyone is different.
I take this stuff and it's so helpful!! It's so much easier to keep the snowball under control when my body isn't also freaking out
I'm on Propranolol to help stop my hyperthyroid symptoms (excessive sweating, tremors and heart racing). It does help!

Magnesium really helps

Roll up a fatty and it’ll take all your anxiety away 😂😂😂😂
Is there an interaction with this and Benadryl? I remember somebody mentioning that about beta blockers
