I believe this up to a point. Some depression I’ve experienced doesn’t make sense. I do everything professionals tell me to do and it’s still there. No explanation.
The problem with this is if you didn't learn skills to take care of your own problems its really hard to get those skills without help… There aren't enough good therapists There's too much poverty Chronic pain! Childhood trauma leading to all kind of issues stemming from ACEs Lots of stuff out of our control
while it may be me doing the work at the end of the day, but help is needed
Yet many doctors see it as their job to fix it with certain medications??? Can be caused from not having vitamins or some other defect in the body. People have reached out for guidance when they are down only to be made worse that’s not right , it does hurt people when they are mistreated and not validated. True happiness comes from God. A cheerful heart is the best medicine! I don’t believe it is always such a choice, maybe stuffing their heart with gratitude can help. Healing takes time. Many people were deceived with pharmaceuticals and harmed. Most the time I’ve noticed people reach out for help and are so brainwashed and mislead they end up worse .
Naw. Most of it is genetic. We are simply at a point where the meds are still medieval and we still don’t know whats going on in the head so we end up accusing pharma of gaslighting us which they are , and then turn around and end up gaslighting people who are chronically depressed who have never had a genetic test and virtually no idea whats happening in their brain.
This is just a trend to trash big pharma for making shitty pills and it comes across as guruish despite being hopefully well intentioned.
With the level of trauma and mental illness out there its going to take way more than lifestyle changes and a new perspective to turn peoples lives around.
To me, I had my dream job! 25yrs.. and made a foolish mistake and Lost it. The Stress, Anxiety, insomnia was SO bad… got depression. And lost interest in EVERYTHING, and sunk deeper into guilt, regret, blame etc. My job, was the center of my life and self. I suffer so badly 24/7 .. 7 months now. I don't want to be admitted, and I don't want to start any antidepressants. Im just so disappointed and feel my life was destroyed. Don't know what to do at this point……
Ridiculous. Trying to fix your own brain when you are in major depression is like trying to run a race with a broken leg. Obviously healing comes from inside out, but sometimes it is simply impossible without help. The patient/ therapist relationship is a partnership.
A diet high in turnips can cure depression within 4 weeks. Turnips contain a category of phytochemicals called 'turniptines' and 'parsnipenes' which have been shown to work better than any of the horrible pharma drugs doctors and therapists try to shove down our throats.
I can't find my Comment from earlier! Depression IS VERY, VERY, FREQUENTLY CAUSED BY THE ABUSE YOUR ARE ENDURING! HOW IS THIS NOT HIGHLIGHTED HERE???IT'S THE ABUSE, STUPID!! IT'S SO OBVIOUS!NARCISSISTIC ABUSE! HELP FOR THAT IS EVERYWHERE HERE! IT'S THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM THAT MANY CAN'T PUT A NAME TO, BECAUSE THE PATIENT CAN'T ARTICULATE IT IN A CLEAR WAY, AND ALWAYS HAPPENS WITHOUT A WITNESS! IT IS SO PERVASIVE. NARCS ARE EVERYWHERE!! YOU VERY PROBABLY, IF YOU HAVE SEVERE DEPRESSION,AND HAVE NO SELF ESTEEM, OR FEEL "WORTHLESS," HAVE AT LEAST ONE NARC, AS WE SPEAK, WHO IS SERIOUSLY ABUSING YOU.THEY TARGET VULNERABLE, GOOD, PEOPLE. YES. THEY WANT TO DESTROY YOU! NARCS ARE HORRIBLE, MISERABLE PEOPLE WHO TAKE THEIR MISERY OUT ON OTHERS BY BULLYING, INSULTING, THREATENING, LYING, AND ABUSING OTHERS, MOST FREQUENTLY THE WEAK AND VULNERABLE ONES LIKE YOU! GET HELP TO ESCAPE FROM THE NARCISSIST! KNOW WHAT TO CALL IT AND YOU ARE HALFWAY THERE! START BY RESEARCHING ALL THEIR TACTICS HERE! ON THE INTERNET!THE INTERNET HAS A GREAT DEAL OF INFORMATION ABOUT THIS! LOOK UP "NARCISSISTIC ABUSE." DO IT NOW! WRITE IT DOWN. CALL A COUNSELOR OR THERAPIST, OR YOUR PRIEST OR DOCTOR. TELL THEM TO WRITE IT IN YOUR MEDICAL RECORDS. THAT IS IMPORTANT, SO OTHER CAREGIVERS KNOW WHAT YOU ARE ENDURING. PUT IT IN ALL YOUR HEALTHCARE RECORDS. THE NARCISSIST IS PROBABLY IN YOUR FAMILY!! READ THIS ALL, AGAIN! NO ONE TOLD ME THIS AND I ENDURED THIS ABUSE FOR MOST OF MY LIFE WITHOUT KNOWING WHAT TO CALL IT. THEY ARE JEALOUS AND ENVIOUS OF YOU, BECAUSE YOU HAVE CHARACTER AND GOODNESS AND KINDNESS AND EMPATHY. THESE ARE THINGS THEY DO NOT HAVE. THEY ARE JEALOUS OF YOUR GOOD CHARACTER, AND WANT TO DESTROY IT IN YOU, BECAUSE THAT IS A THREAT TO THEM..
I have depression since childhood and suicidal thoughts since I'm 12. I have no FUCKING idea how life is without those things. SO HOW THE FUCK AM I SUPPOSE TO KNOW, HOW TO GET RID OF THOSE OR AT LEAST DEAL WITH THEM THEN?
When I know WHAT my goal is but have no idea WHERE my goal is, then how can I build a road towards it?
Yes and no. Therapists can help A LOT! Very similar to the way a coach can help an athlete. Or the way a tutor can help a pupil study better. The problem is that many people don't even know where to start. This is where a good therapist spends time with the individual, gets to know them, and provides tools and guidance in order to help the patient overcome their depression. EMDR is an excellent modality for this. It's like physical therapy, but for the brain. The therapist can provide the tools and guidance, but it is up to the individual to apply them. Therapists can also provide really good perspective. This can't always be achieved by yourself, but the real work that the therapist shows you how to do can. I would personally reconsider your view on therapists. "Helping a little" is really downplaying the amount of help they can actually provide. Because of the complexity of depression, therapists are there to help get you back on track when you falter, even when you don't realize you faltered.
This is so true. I had to learnt it after decades of "treatment", almost losing my life to psychiatric drugs and being very mistreated by my "professionals". I'm fine now, I made it by myself and I'm very proud of that. I wish I had a Dr. like you. Thank you for being the person who says what no one wants to hear. That's greatness.
When I went to a psychiatrist and switched to Cymbalta along with Buspar, it was like light switch got turned on and I could understand the baseline of how an average person feels. I was no longer in a constant state of fear. I also saw a therapist, which helped me. Yes, I did the work, but, the depression was not my fault. The anxiety was not my fault. When someone has been through trauma and can no longer function in society, they should not feel ashamed or guilty that they can't do it on their own. Taking a drug, talking to a therapist, absolutely can help.
This is something a person of privilege and power would say.
How does knowing the root cause of one's depression help? Knowing you are poor, in an abusive relationship, were molested as a child, in a country that is taking away people's rights, … may give a root cause but how can you change the past? How can knowing that you are in a bad situation which is very hard or virtually impossible to get out of going to help? Sometimes a person needs an extra something to spring themselves into action and not unlife themselves. What this influencer is doing is victim blaming. He is trying to make it seem like drugs are not going to help and you need to pay for his services to get off of them. People with privilege don't see the blocks the average public has like financial ones.
This reminds me if that tv series Sybil, starring Sally Field. In it the character becomes cured through hypnosis. Once she realizes she had multiple personalities she immediately became cured. This did not happen in real life. They were lying. People don't find out later in life that they were molested as a child and then magically get cured. It does takes work from the individual, but, often therapy and medication help. If this influencer believes it is only up to you to do the work, then, don't use his services. You can do it yourself.

“Daily commitment, motivation, and effort” so…. The symptoms of depression? Instead of getting help you should just… stop having depression?

Noboby relies on doctors to fix their depression doctors are there to help you see what you can't when you're crippled.
