There are typically 3 reasons you might struggle to set and achieve goals.
1. You don’t have enough time or energy to do the thing
2. You forget about the goal because, hey, life happens
3. You don’t totally understand why a method, process, whatever actually works.
I’m problem-solving all 3 of these for you, and I’m giving you 13 concrete strategies that will transform your mental health (if you follow them).
Let me know in the comments if you’re willing to try.

I never skip meals. I never drink caffeine because of afib episodes. I don't drink alcohol because of cirrhosis caused by hep c that I was cured of in 2020. Got hep c from a blood transfusion in 1982. I am 70 work FT as a custodian. It's hard. I don't have extra time. I do chair exercises. the hep c had caused severe arthritis so my weight training had to stop. I am in constant pain. I read my Bible and pray.
Man you a God send like words and money can't describe God Bless You for real!
When I was anorexic, in my early 20’s, I had a psychologist. I described tExTbOoK focal aware seizures to him. He said “whatever that is, you’re doing it to yourself!” He yelled it at me. I went 7 more years without a diagnosis. My diagnosis didn’t come until I was pregnant at 28. My first grand mal happened when I was 31. My last happened when I was driving, causing a catastrophic car accident. Recognize Gestaut Geshwind? This is fun 😒
Thank you Dr Eilers!
WoW! You've had some Chronic pain issues so You can relate to people with real MH issues. You've changed your life because you limited your caffiene intake. You have achieved so much more because You limited the time You spent on Your mobile phone. You have improved Your life because You reduced Your alcohol intake, and are fortunate enough to eat three regular meals a day. WoW! are you kidding me, most normal people would benefit from these basic daily living requirements. How does this help people with real MH issues dealing with unexpected negative thoughts, total energy drops, lethargic mood swings, flash backs to traumatic events they've suffered, medication mood swings. Hypersensitivity, Hyper Vigilance, PTSD and so on. How is all this actually helping people with MH long term. How many visits do you charge for your feel good consoltations because that's all you are doing, charging people to leave your consultation room feeling good until the next time they come back. To pay you money that they normally can't afford which is the majority of Mental Health patients.
For something to do once a week is to go Geocaching! Kids would love it and bring a pen and some small trinkets to exchange.
Martial arts is a fun way to exercise and is good to learn self defense and self control and discipline.
And a fiction book I'd recommend is "Hinds feet on high places" by Hannah Hurnard.
If you don't want to sound judgmental the word faking has no place and could easily be named avoiding evading whatever. You of all people should know that the stories we all tell ourselves serve a purpose.
Faking sounds like malingering which is quite the judgment.
The dealing with stuff like stigma prejudice and judgment feels pretty crazy making in itself sometimes.
Very good! Thank you 😊
I wish I could apply 8 hrs towards my obligations! I would be happy with 4 hrs
Not all the food converts into glucose, that is not correct. It depends on what you eat and if you are fat adapted or carb dependent.
However, not everything works for everyone. This one model of a valid life doesn't suit everyone, and forcing it might be actively harmful. Take the advice, but then filter out what actually works for you.
Good tips, but too long…
Why did you have to include the number 13 in the title? Im aware that i deal with "magical thinking," and i try to avoid anything with the number 13. I dont ivent use my phone at the 13th minute at any hour
I’m in a severe anxious depressive episode and glued to my phone for a large part of the day. Why? Because the phone pulls me out of the thought loops that are destroying my sanity. I’m so worried about my (non-existent) career, relationship and country of residence, that I crave the constant distraction. It’s terrible, I know, but for now I’m allowing myself phone time without much guilt, until I feel stronger.
I'm falling out of love with you, Dr Scott. What about having compassion for yourself and letting your psyche rest and recover?
I'm tired of being judged and told that I could be living my life better.
For years I had no tv and used cellphone for keeping in touch with others.
After a traumatic event 7+ years ago, I never feel safe. I'm scared to leave house, now bed. All I do is browsing the internet on my phone
Given your close proximity to most family members, I strongly advise visiting your aunt before her passing. In addition, please schedule visits with your cousins; your last interaction likely occurred during childhood. The expense of these visits would be negligible.
Get the basics right first – get up, shower, teeth, breakfast, water, light exercise.
Yes, The Bible says to pray about everything. No matter what we are going through right now, No matter how impossible the situation may seem, No matter how helpless or hopeless we may feel, We should remember this, NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE WITH GOD. God's power is infinite. Therefore, we should have faith in Him, His power, and His love for us. I encourage you to go to God in prayer. take this time to pursue God. For and foremost ask God to protect, comfort, guide and strength you through this trial. It will only weigh on your mind more and more and potentially miss out on the spiritual benefits of seeking guidance and comfort, If you neglect to pray before the Lord. We are to give our grievances, our emotional turmoil, our anguish – to God. Our peace is not determined by our circumstances. Our peace is dependent upon our relationship with God. The closer that we are to God the more peaceful we are. practicing discipline with your mental state to surrender your issues to Jesus Christ is something God desperately wants from you. Do not lean on your own understanding but just trust in Jesus Christ, He is the only answer to all your problems. He knows you completely and knows your pain too and He will heal your heart and will pour His blessings upon you. Now, it's up to you to repent and put your trust in Jesus. Let Him lead you. Strive towards being satisfied with God.
Jesus said in Matthew 11:28, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Philippians 4:6-7 states, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Or… you are on a time frame being the only income in the house. Working 16 to 18hour days. And everyone in your house you care for is a video game addict. You don't know shit.
especially the first. The cel phone. Everyone is addicted to it
I've been listening to you all morning.
Very nurturing as always
Thank you.
Thank you. This video, all your videos, mean a lot
You know me, thank you for your advice I will slowly implement these habits into by week by adding 1 recommendation per week. Mine is with the laptop. Literally, bed rotting with no desire to live. I'm 67 and have worked all of my life…this commenced with covid but not blaming it on covid as this is my fault.
Amazing advice ❤
you are lucky to have a wife, family nearby…
body, i am hurting inside all the time..
I'm going to The Hell.
I seek out information because I "have to" find the perfect answer, be the perfect person. It's a lot.
Genuine question: Does listening to an audio book count as 'reading' that book?
♥️🙏
Hi Doctor Eilers all the way from South Africa. Doctor I have been searching for ages on how to come off toxic medicine and motivate myself to be happy and start living my life in the best way possible. Nobody got through to me. A friend sent me this video during the night. Wow, thank you for everything. You are being open and honest and I now understand where I am going wrong. I am starting your advice today. Its almost the end of 2025. But rather late then never ever .
Thank you so much again 🙂
The phone screen time … So true. Im teaching myself not to look at the screen too much. It's hard. My teens are out of control with the screen time.
Telling people to not buy things they don't need, goes against capitalism and the economy. That is un- American. This guy could be sued by corporations for giving out this advice.
Thank you, doc.
