Menopause and mental health

Menopause isn’t just about physical changes. It can profoundly impact mental health.

Fluctuating hormones can contribute to anxiety, depression, irritability, and brain fog.
Too often, women are told to “push through,” when in reality, it’s biology at work.

On this Mental Health Awareness Day, let’s recognize that supporting women’s mental health in midlife is just as important as supporting their bones or hearts.

You’re not alone, and you deserve care that sees the whole picture.

  1. As a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor, Im passionate about helping Perimenopausal and Menopausal folks advocate, educate, and navigate through all the noise and information! Thank you for all you are doing to literally save lives. OG fan for the last several years! ❤

  2. Started Estrodial patches and Progesterone one month ago. Finally feeling like myself and sleeping at night. Sadly spent years desperately searching for the next best herbal/natural supplements or creams (would work for a couple of months then stop). I was anxious, depressed, sleep deprived, smiling on the outside and dying inside. My safe place to cry was in the shower. Because of you Dr. Haver and my sister's courage to take charge of her health, I have my life back! So many wasted years living in fear of HRT and my OBGYN didn't help me at all, I walked away devastated and defeated. But no more. I am back!

Thank you, for going above and beyond! 🏆
Why, why did or does a patient have to take so long when we are suffering in our body, mentality, or physically?? I often wonder, being 2025, this is not life! 😢

  4. Taking progesterone makes suicidal. But, they won't let me have estrogen by itself bc I'm already estrogen dominant. So, it's just weight gain, bone loss, hair loss, insomnia, depression, anxiety, and UNCONTROLLABLE HISTAMINE responses that require an inhaler for the rest of my life, I guess.

  5. After many appointments and hundreds of dollars, my Integrative Dr. fired me because I refused to take Xanax due to the anxiety, depression, fatigue, and severe cognitive difficulties

  6. I suspect menopause related behaviour issues is why myself and so many I know lost their jobs in their 40's and 50's. Sure ageism is part of it, but so many get irritable. I sure did. Then I mellowed out eventually even before getting on HRT. It seems like meno is hitting Gen X and Boomers worse than it did previous generations. Are our bodies more out of balance because of the environment?

  7. I think the “Mental health” term needs to be replaced with brain health. It focuses on biology and in menopause specifically, the physiological impact of estradiol decline in the brain. Men have estradiol in their brains and have an enzyme called aromatase that converts testosterone to estradiol, so they don’t lose theirs. This is all physiological and not a nebulous effect of mental health.
