MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – A new medically monitored detoxification program will be opening at Tellurian Behavioral Health in Madison, the company announced on Monday.
Located at 702 W. Main Street, the program will be on January 1.
It will provide individuals with a safe, supportive place to begin their recovery journey.
Officials said this program will help ease the pressure on law enforcement by reducing medical clearance wait times from an average of eight hours to 20 minutes.
This will allow hospital to have beds available for people who have medical emergencies while allowing care to people who are in a crisis.
CEO of Tellurian Behavioral Health Kevin Florek said they are proud of the detox services they have been able to provide for more than four decades.
“This move allows us to continue that legacy in a newly remodeled, trauma-informed environment where patients can begin their recovery journey with greater comfort and dignity,” said Kevin Florek. “We have seen hundreds of individuals achieve lasting recovery, and for many, it all started with this level of care.”
Due to a funding constraint, Tellurian made the decision to relocate its detox program.
“Tellurian has a long-standing partnership with Dane County in providing detox services, and we are deeply saddened that at this time they will not continue this partnership at our new location,” said Florek. “The individuals we serve here have always held a special place in the hearts of everyone at Tellurian and everyone involved is heartbroken. However, we are encouraged that the County Board and the Health and Human Needs Committee are in the process of approving a continuation of funding for the first few months of 2026.”
Florek said Tellurian is open to any opportunity to work with Dane County to be able to care for its community members.
WMTV reached out to the Dane County Medical Society who stressed how important it is for county leaders to support detox programs.
It is critical that the County not stop services while future strategies are determined. The Residential Withdrawal Management Program managed by Tellurian is an important community resource that is part of the safety net for vulnerable individuals.
In a statement, the Dane County Medical Society also urged Dane County to continue funding the Tellurian Residential Withdrawal Management Program while continuing to explore effective ways to care for those in need.
There are nearly 30 counties across the state that rely on Tellurian for detox services.
