The Shocking Truth About Mental Health Services for Autistic People #autism
Senate report that came out 2022 then they then they decided it was so bad we need an Autism campaign like I think they call it an Autism strategy basically you know that one of the main things was Mental Health Services they need to actually reinvent the wheel here because the mental health services weren’t right for the autistic community and that’s one of the main issues in the report but you’re absolutely right there needs to be a clear separation here that this is something that needs to be addressed and evolved and we need to have mental health service providers resources that are actually designed fit for purpose for neurodivergent people cuz they’re not working y in the standard system definitely and I think a great way to get that happening is to have designated lived experience roles for autistic people within mental health sectors I think that would be just a really good first step of like let’s get some people in designated roles who have that experience that understanding and see what happens next

autistic drs. helping autistic individuals. its the only options
Can't look straight ahead but it doesn't mean I'm depressed
A dr. A psychologist that is not neurodivergent can be helpful with some things as everyone shares some stuff with others non specific to neurodivergency. Not ideal as neurodivergents communicate, see things different etc. maybe a person is strongly affected by eds.and can benefit from drs. Practiced with that. Overall I am guessing an improved neurodivergent meidical system is unlikely. In the u s. In the u.k.. sincere concerns efforts to improve especially mental health support for ANY population never becomes reality. Gotta start at base and that is our national corrupted by $$$ and doing sames with trillions of dollars and pounds making the arms manufactureres enriched and politicians supportive of course. Is that going to happen. No , of course not. I wonder if the best avenue is private funded and creating at community levels ,bsay an all encompassing facility, staffing, with neurodivergent staff and start a fire with that and see if that can grow. If its there becomes a living working model.. psychologist in u s. Polled responded only 2 % believed they were qualified to help autistics. Real dangers people need to wise up and educate themselves via online community before or if seeking therapists, dr ,psycholigist. Stimming is a vast subject, soft stimming not well known. So ur therapist has zero or limited understanding and will diagnose as O C D must work to STOP that behavior. Obviously harnful. Good people out there dont be naive you are not going to get the crap one or multi crap before get good. And caution that we are not the solely oppressed underserved group as we are not. I take the view i am feel oppressed underserved, really scarred a bit not just for my autism, adhd but other issues i have run into nightmare suck, mental ill providors and just practicing. hurting people. Its ok cause systemic supported it is simply the mechaniisms of world i live in. Just being the best mechanic for myself i can look for tools like online to work for myself. I hope everyone listens up to these guys and think long on any interactions with most of medical system and wishing it gets better beore your 90 th bday. dont have to look far in own community and online for the horror stories. There are honest, sane loving people like Orion and his guests that are I think a safer bet then Systems when u can avoid those. i learned quick with aware not to mention autism adhd just inviting trouble. Level 1 and i dont need help , intervention medical mental got nyself sorted. Not same easy for others. Hah, recent at a good newbPCP visit. She ? why i was like flapping my hand? I answered felt hot, just fanning myself. Dunno if she bought it? She is a good dr for family dr dr , why confuse anything mentioning autism. Just my situation.
Agreed on the lived experience. No matter the research or knowledge, a neurotypical person will never be able to know what its like
I got 35 years of back pay owed to me
Hi internet, how do i find this entire video?
Thanks!
Yes! Yes! Yes! U just gave me hope when I needed it the most!
There is absolutely nothing wrong with any of you
I would love for us to have more services. I have noticed that because so many people don't know what autism is a lot of services say that they aren't set up for us and just assume that there is something else there that is instead.
Problem is that there isn't.
Where I live there is community mental health services and if you don't meet the criteria (aren't severe enough) for that there is a NGO service that is funded by the local health district.
Problem is that where I live that service specifically says that they don't take people with ASD/ADHD.
There are very few psychologists/psychiatrists that say that they do take autistic people and once you are an adult that drops even further.
There aren't any non clinical services either.
Last time I looked Aspect had on course for adults which was a 10 week living skills course that included things like brushing your teeth and socialising.
In the US, there are very few services for Autistic adults.
I would love to see People with lived experience of Autism in the mental health setting. We could learn so much from you, and be better care givers to Autistic people. I was so ignorant about Autism until I had to start learning because both my children are autistic.
I've been having some CBT therapy (referred by NHS) recently, and some parts are ok, but it is also so glarringly obvoous how allistic tailored it is. The therapist isn't trained in neurodiversion ans it's starting to feel more of a hindrance. The same stratorgies for a NT won't necessarily help someone with ASC or ADHD.
