ARTHUR, Ill. (WICS) — Lester Raymind, the man who battered and attempted to kidnap a minor on February 17, has been sentenced to just under 13 years in a secure mental health facility.

In court, Raymind was found not guilty by reason of insanity for the charge of attempted aggravated kidnapping and aggravated battery. The court determined that Raymind requires inpatient mental health services and remanded him to the custody of the Illinois Department of Human Services for evaluation. His sentence will be served at 85%, potentially allowing for his release in just under 13 years. He remains in Douglass County Jail until a spot opens up at a facility.

Officers responded to a local business at 5:18 a.m. on Feb. 17 following reports of the incident. Upon arrival, they found a minor female victim and an adult female witness. The witness stated that Raymind approached the victim from behind, battered her, and attempted to carry her away on foot. The witness pursued Raymind until he released the victim and fled the scene.
