Why Location Matters More Than Motivation
in my work as a psychiatrist I’ve noticed something fascinating changing where you do a task can completely transform how you feel about it instead of forcing yourself to work at that desk that you hate try moving to a Cozy Corner or an outdoor space and this is more than about Comfort it’s about neural associations your brain creates connections between environments and experiences by doing challenging tasks in Pleasant surroundings you’re literally rewiring your brain’s response to that task it’s a powerful psychological tool that many people overlook
Your environment has more impact on your behavior than willpower alone. Here’s how to use this to your advantage.

Golden advice !🎉🎉
Of course… It is important… Of course it is huge change, and help, and air of new energy… I wish, i pray, that there will be chance, to move on, not just from my apartment, but from this city, and state where i was born, and have lived… For too long… In one place, well, in one city and state… 😔🙏:-/
Literally 😭I can’t do any work at home
✌️
I wish you were my doctor.
Greetings from Greece. Keep up!
Thanks
I really like your videos. So much wisdom. If you had a bad memory in a room that used to be a place where you relax, how do you get rid of the memory?❤
Thank you
Yes!!!!!!🎉🎉
Folding laundry on the couch instead of in my bedroom is so much more enjoyable for some reason
You know what happened. The thesis that I have been putting off for 2 weeks, I'm making progress because I went to a convenience store yesterday
That’s why you see so many people working on their laptops in coffee shops! It’s not work, it’s not home, it’s the third place! That was Starbucks slogan from a long time ago! I would rather bring a drink and go to the park. It’s quieter and I can use my phone to hot spot my laptop to and use my phones cellular for connection. It’s all about finding your cozy spot.
You're fabulous, Dr. Tracey!
Wow! This appeared in my feed right in time 💯
This is another thing that caused anxiwty at my old job. The setting has been made for flexible working and encouraged to work from different places. Then when I did I was supposedly looking for attention, all the harrassment made it impossible to enjoy my job.
This seems like a GREAT hack! Thank you!
YES!! Ido try to relocate my dread work – I thought it was just me? Thinking it might help? So haven't tried it on a regular basis – thank you!! Now hearing this yes!! There "IS" something to it :-D. I will put this into practice now whenever I can wow!,thank you! Dr. Tracey!❤
I get this but I found when I worked from home I needed to set it up similar to my work situation. I could do emails and less important tasks like that but not the critical parts
I dive vegetables in living room. I listen to music in kitchen. I talk to besties in bedroom. Smartphone browsing in balcony. It is eccentric but enjoyable. ❤❤
Yes, I agree with you. Many people believe that studying outside their comfort zone helps them adapt to life’s challenges when they can’t be home due to various circumstances. However, I’m convinced that true focus requires isolation from distractions, as our brains primarily work iteratively, processing one task at a time before moving to the next. While stepping out of one’s comfort zone may help in situational challenges—like being far from home and needing to adapt—it’s not an absolute solution for every situation. Studying effectively requires the right environment, writing down notes, and using references as reminders because our cognitive abilities have limits. For example, our brain can store only about 7 items in short-term memory before they’re filtered out, and it takes deliberate studying to integrate this information into long-term memory.
References are important too for an association in environment to give you a hint.
Studying has to be in state flow, pleasant, effortless, fun,
flexible and student friendly, with low stress levels, because they are elementary and a determining factors for efficacy of re-hearsing and absorbing material in a way that does not over- exhaust our cognition beyond its standard threshold.
Thanks for this one!
Is this why the same desk I do my day job at (I work from home) I don't feel motivated to draw (my passion) at that same desk?
Your content is very helpful, as is the tone and tenor in which you deliver it. Keep up the great work.
Yes!
