The ‘Stranger Things’ fame star, Millie Bobby Brown, was only 9 years old when she made her way into the world of films. Being in front of the camera at such a young age brought her joy. However, at the same time, she was exposed to the dark side of fame at an early age. Being in the public eye at a tender age came with its own cost, which young Millie dealt with as she grew up. Today, Brown is 21, married, anda mother of a beautiful baby girl, and understands the value of self-love more than ever. A few years ago, when she was 19, she also addressed the topic of anxiety and mental health, and shared anecdotes from her own experiences.
Thoughtful take on mental health
“Mental health is not a taboo topic; Remember, we are human beings,” said Millie Bobby Brown at Glamour’s 2023 Women of the Year Awards Event in New York City. She continued to explain how growing up in the industry made her aware of rejection at a young age. She elaborated on the negative side of social media and stardom, and how important it is to deal with it, to talk about it, and emerge as an evolved person.
Millie Bobby Brown on the shackles of social media
“The influence of social media and the press had a negative effect on my mental health and anxiety is still a huge battle I’m dealing with today. Luckily, with the love and support from my friends and family, I feel strong enough. I do not feel alone anymore,” she mentioned.
Supporting and shaping young minds
She thus decided to use her platform to support young people and child actors, and help them battle the issues she dealt with. Further, sharing her own experiences, she mentioned, “For eight years, I wanted to sparkle, flourish, and break out of the box everyone tried putting me in. I decided to be quiet when taking interviews and not say anything that could be twisted because I was scared. But that fire and free spirit in me was bursting to come out. It didn’t take long for me to finally realize I didn’t care, that who I was was enough.”
