TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – A merger between two Topeka organizations went through this week.
Valeo Behavioral Health Care and Family Service and Guidance Center are now Astra Mental Health and Recovery.
“It is critically important for Topeka to have a robust, streamlined mental health system,” said Astra Mental Health and Recovery Director of Marketing and Development Pam Evans.
The new organization says the community has been top of mind.
“The whole process has always had an aim to what’s going to best serve our community and the individuals who are struggling in it,” Evans said. “So that was always at the forefront of every discussion.”
The combined organization expects to serve 11,000 people with more than 600 staff members.
Same-day access is a key benefit of the merger.
“Individuals can come into one of two locations between specific times and be seen and start the process of getting treatment services,” Evans said.
Patients can come in for a same-day visit between 8-11:30 a.m. Monday-Thursday at 330 SW Oakley Ave. or from 1-4 p.m. Monday-Thursday at 327 SW Frazier Ave.
Evans says existing patients shouldn’t worry.
“It will be much more streamlined and easier for them,” she said. “That is incredibly important to us, making sure we’re making things as easy and comfortable as possible.”
All previous Valeo and FSGC locations will continue to serve patients as Astra locations.
The main phone number for the combined organization is 785-215-8888.
