Recently, Denton County MHMR announced that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its care may have been compromised. According to the breach notice, on or around December 24, 2024, Denton County MHMR discovered unusual activity on its network.1 As a result, Denton County MHMR launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident.

Through its investigation, Denton County MHMR confirmed that sensitive personal information in its systems may have been accessed by an unauthorized third party between December 24 and December 25, 2024. As a result, Denton County MHMR began a review of the data to determine what information had been impacted as well as identify the specific individuals affected. On December 30, 2025, Denton County MHMR updated its notice of the breach posted on its website. Additionally, on January 5, 2026, Denton County MHMR reported to the Attorney General of Texas that it had experienced a data breach.
