LAFAYETTE, Ind.(WLFI) – 24/7 help for your mental health. That’s what the National Alliance on Mental Illness or NAMI of West Central Indiana is providing to Hoosiers.

Not all of their services are available as often as the 24/7 Crisis Service, but NAMI is hoping to be a resource that’s readily available, made possible by the advocates that work there.

NAMI focuses heavily on support groups that are peer-led to create meaningful connections.

“NAMI is like that continuum of care. We are peer led so that means the people that work here have been through it before. They’ve had mental health issues or they’ve helped a family member health issues which is just that personal connection you can build with someone,” said Director of Development and Communications Breanna Burbridge

Clients like Eric have been utilizing NAMI’s services for awhile now. He says he’s found community through the advocates and a support system that wants to see him succeed.

Eric said, “They will bend over backwards to get you connected. They were trying to get me help with my medication in the middle of the night when I got out of the doctor’s office because I didn’t have any money. They will always find some sort of resource to help you legitimately, they absolutely will.”

To get clients like Eric on their feet and to keep advocates readily available, Director of Development and Communications Breanna Burbridge says donors are the biggest support they need.

That’s why NAMI is hosting its big fundraiser on February 7th at 6 p.m. at the Stables Event Center.

Burbridge said, “People in the community seeing all of these things happening and wanting to give back is what fuels our mission to end the mental health stigma in our community.”

To keep the mental health conversation going while having a lighthearted evening.. The event is called “Saturday Night Lafayette,” a comedy gala featuring the improv group The Crazy Monkeys as well as local Lafayette celebrities.
