A man accused of setting a Clarkston home on fire appeared before a judge via Zoom as his case progresses toward a potential plea deal.

Defense attorneys informed the court they have discussed a mental health sentencing alternative for 41-year-old Isaac Phelps. The judge has postponed the case to March 2, setting a deadline to enter a plea or advance the case, while allowing time to explore mental health sentencing options.

Investigators say Phelps admitted to using diesel fuel to set the blaze on the Clarkston home. His partner, Jessica Wickerizer, told police he had purchased the fuel days earlier, explaining to her that he intended to “clean the sidewalk with it.”

Phelps is charged with first-degree arson and remains in the Asotin County Jail on $100,000 bond.
