BITS Pilani implements student mental health measures Margao: The BITS Pilani Goa Campus implemented extensive measures to support student mental health and well-being, dean Suman Kundu informed the third sistrict-level monitoring committee meeting for South Goa.The meeting, chaired by district collector Egna Cleetus, was convened to implement Supreme Court guidelines on mental health and suicide prevention in educational institutions. SP Tikam Singh Verma, director of higher education Bhushan Sawaikar, and officials from other departments attended the meeting.Kundu outlined a multi-layered support framework, including counsellors for students facing stress and depression, along with regular mental wellness and rejuvenation camps. Key initiatives include Mitr, a faculty-led hostel outreach programme, and Sethu, a comprehensive mentorship system linking students with faculty mentors.The institute strengthened peer support through Mental Health Buddies, TAG (an anonymous student support group), and peer mentorship for freshers. Professional care is delivered via the expanded Mpower Centre with psychologists and therapists, plus 24X7 medical services and dedicated helplines.Academic reforms include liberal evaluation practices and curriculum restructuring. Campus enhancements feature extended sports facilities, upgraded hostels, and comprehensive CCTV coverage. Faculty and wardens received mental health first aid training to ensure early intervention capabilities.
